Culture

Nigerians inherently are good and well-behaved people. We have a robust learning system of good values and ethics that starts from proper home training followed with correct religious teachings and sound school training. Unfortunately, we have a leadership problem. The Oladipo Fadamiro – led government will bring back these values.

Civil Service and Work Ethics

Encourage good work ethics and integrity across all levels and in all commissions and agencies of government.

Transparency in employment and awarding contracts. Remove all forms of tribalism or nepotism. Change all ‘state of origin’ from all government-issue forms to ‘state of birth’.

Eliminate ghost workers and reduce redundancy of workers. Increase salary periodically and give other incentives such as staff bus, pension, HMO, car/house loan

Improve ICT use across all commissions and agencies of government with working websites, email and phone.

Publish income and expenditure on a monthly or quarterly basis.

Tackling Corruption

Consider this scenario: You are driving and approaching a junction when you see the traffic light turns red. You are the first car to stop at the light. You notice that all the cars coming behind you have to stop, even if sometimes they may be unwilling.

There is an analogy between this traffic light scenario and a society prone to corruption. Thus, one good way to reduce corruption within an organization is to put competent men and women at the helm of affairs. The subordinates are more likely to act in ways similar to their leader even when they don’t feel like

Other ways to check financial corruption or money laundering is at the point of exchange for goods and services. Any reputable car seller, real estate agency or anybody selling any item of value (say $1000 or more) should ask for proof of work, bank statement or other necessary paperwork before exchanging good or service.

Template for house address

Encourage the use of naming house addresses to incorporate the local government. This has the advantage of knowing the relevant government structures involved for a given house. For example,

No. 3, Raymond Njoku street, Eti Osa, Lagos.

It is not compulsory to add ‘off Awolowo road’ or ‘ikoyi’ as in ‘No. 3, Raymond Njoku street, off Awolowo road, Ikoyi, Lagos. Thus, no 2 streets within the same local government should have the same name.
